Blue Whales at Channel Islands Whale Watching
by Frank UrsittiThese past few days we have experienced incredible encounters. We thought we had it all on Sunday with a pod of 7 Orca that we traveled along with for over 10 miles. The next day, we came upon some Fin and Humpback. Today, as if we needed a topper, surfacing on the horizon were some Blue Whales.
Humbled by their presence, a hush falls over the deck when this, the largest animal on our planet, rises to the surface.
Reaching lengths of up to 100 feet, this massive leviathan has a tongue that weighs as much as an elephant and a heart as big as an automobile.
It truly is humbling to watch such a beautiful massive creature rise to the surface and breathe, and in the process blow a geyser upwards to 30 feet in the air.
It’s staggering to imagine an animal with such oversize proportions act so gentile and graceful in the water.
As we watched, one could not help but try to full grasp its sheer dimensions.
It’s like watching a freight train that just keeps coming and coming and coming as the animal arches its back before sounding to the depths to feed.
Our waters are teeming with life just waiting for you to come with us to explore…
See you onboard.
Thanks for the images Ed!
